Silly weekend... Part 1.

Sunday night I went to bed pretty late... about 12:30. I was laying in bed waiting for Ricardo to get home from work. He came in about a quarter to one, and turned the light on. His face was that of a small child on Christmas morning.

Ricardo: Guess what I just saw outside??

Whitney: I dunno. What?

R: A TOAD!!!

W: Oh... cool.

R: It's still out there!!!

W: Where?

R: Right outside the entrance! We should catch it and show it to Ellie tomorrow morning.

W: Okay. Go catch it, then.

I rolled over.

R: But...

W: *sigh*... But what? You can't go catch it??

R: I don't really want to touch it. You're not scared of little animals like that, go catch it for me fast and then you can come back to bed.

W: Seriously???

R: Come on, baby, it'll take 2 seconds! Go put your robe on!

W: Oh, I can NOT believe you're making me get out of bed at 1 am to catch a freaking TOAD. ugh!!

He dug the little portable aquarium out of the closet, and downstairs we went. The thing was about the size of Ellie's little fist, and pretty fat and ugly. I swept my hand toward it once, to see how far/fast/high it would jump, decided I could catch it easily, and made a grab for it. I caught it, first try, and dropped it into the aquarium.
Inside, Ricardo googled "toad food" and I cut up a grape and a small piece of tomato for it, since I was NOT planning on feeding it any bugs... and I filled up the little water dish for him, and we called it a night, FINALLY.

The next morning, I had to work, but I knew Ricardo was going to be super excited about showing the little booger toad to Ellie. About 9 am, I get an email from him:

I showed the little toad to Ellie, and she was looking at it really hard. She even turned off the TV to concentrate on it better, and soon she said "this is not a frog, this is a rock!!" hahaha and I said no Ellie, it's a froggie, and she said, "But it's not moving, I think it's a rock!!" So I said It's gonna move soon, and she said "I'm gonna shake it!" hahaha

I emailed him back, laughing, and asked if he let it go yet, since he wasn't planning on keeping it long, just showing it to Ellie and releasing it. No, he replied, she says she wants to show her new pet to her Mommy, so he's staying for a while. She didn't know that I saw the dumb thing way before she did :)

So of course I acted surprised when I got home and she showed it to me. And, I noticed that his little rock and cave hiding place were all upside down and scattered about in his cage. Turns out Ellie really DID shake it. And Ricardo let her! I gave him a look, and he just laughed.

Last night I waited until Ricardo wasn't around, and set the toad free back where we found him. Our house doesn't need to be a zoo, I guess.. though I wouldn't have minded keeping the little guy.
