Elephant Dreams

This morning Eva woke up at about 5:30. I can't complain, she let me sleep quite a bit last night. I think I went to bed at about 9 pm, woke up at 10:30 to feed Eva, went back to sleep until about 1:30, woke up to feed Eva, and went back to sleep until like 4:30... when she had her last bottle, and then slept lightly until 5:30. Overall, not bad at all. She's done much worse. I don't feel exhausted today like I have other days.
When I got up with her this morning for the last time, I took her out to the living room and snuggled with her on the sofa. I kissed her plump cheeks, her silky hair, her pointy little chin. She is so delicious!!! I wasn't tired, and she wasn't screaming, life was good.
Then, like the cherry on top, Ellie Lyn came strolling into the living room. She was dragging her blankie behind her, and greeted me with a casual, "hey Momma."
She seemed to be in a good mood too.
She had woken up at around 2 am and gotten out of bed... I was feeding Eva and told her to get back in bed, but she wouldn't. Ricardo was up doing homework, and went to take care of her. I guess she peed through her pull-up and her jammies... So Ricardo got her all changed and went in to lay down with her until she fell asleep again.
Anyway, so she apologized for getting up at 2 am... I told her it was okay, and asked her what happened, and she told me the story. Then, "I had a NIGHTMARE!" she exclaimed, scowling.
"Oh, I'm sorry! What was it about?" I consoled, snuggling closer to her on the sofa.
"It was about Spongebob... and there was an ELEPHANT in my closet! "
"There was? What was it doing there?"
"He wouldn't quit stomping! And I was trying to sleep!"
What a cute, innocent nightmare. When adults (at least Ricardo and I) have nightmares, they're about infidelity, natural disasters, serial killers, money problems, etc.
And Ellie's nightmares are so sweetly simple... An elephant in her room is the worst image that her little brain can conjure up.
Then we talked about what Eva's nightmares are probably about, and we decided they most likely involve running out of milk to drink. Ellie asked if she could go to Grandma and Grandpa's house alone today, and leave baby Eva at home by herself. I told her no, that I was going to take them both over to Grandma's house, and I asked her, "Don't you like your sister?"
"I don't like her screaming all day."
Okay... "But you do like your sister, right?"
"I don't like her puking, either."
Still cleverly skating around my question..."I know you don't like those things that she does, but do you like Eva?"
"Yeah... But can we still leave her at home?"
They both ended up staying home with Papi, whose classes were cancelled because there's an ice storm coming. I hope they're good girls for him today! I adore them.
