Ellie's going GREEN.

The other day I threw a banana peel out the window while driving. Of course, missing nothing, Ellie was all over it. "Mommy, why did you throw that?"

So I launched into a long explanation about how bananas are biodegradable, and what that means. I also taught her about things that are NOT biodegradable, and that we can not throw on the ground. Then I quizzed her for a few minutes and tested to see if she knew what she could and couldn't throw on the ground. She seemed to get it.

We talked about it maybe one other time, and practiced her pronunciation of the word. Other than those 2 times, we haven't talked about it since.

My mom called me at work today. She said, "I want you to hear what your child just told me about apples."

I though, oh crap, what did she say???

Ellie got on the phone and said, "Apples are biodegradable."

I laughed. My mom got back on the phone. I must admit I felt quite smug and proud of Ellie as I nonchalantly explained that yes, my child knows and understands the word biodegradable. :D

I guess now she's giving lessons on what is and is not biodegradable in my mom's house. Go Green, Grandma!
